SUMMARY:Merton Vintage/Classic Rally Around
DESCRIPTION:We have now received information from the organisers for this charming event\, run by the Merton Moncks – Fundraising for the local community. The following is an extract from their notification: \n“We are delighted to advise that we are once again holding our Merton Vintage & Classis Rally Around on \nSUNDAY 30TH APRIL 2023 (as usual\, on the Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend). Fingers crossed the weather will be kinder \nto us this year.\nLast year\, we were delighted with the attendance\, and despite us all getting rather wet we were able to raise a total of £4450\nwhich was divided equally between our chosen charities: The North Devon Hospice and The Devon Air Ambulance. \nWe very much look forward to another enjoyable day enabling you to show your exhibit and have the opportunity to catch up \nwith old friends. This year we are again going to raise funds for the same two very important local Charities in memory of \nChris Laughton and all our friends and loved ones who sadly we have lost along the way.\nRemember to make a note in your diary and on your calendars ………………… SUNDAY 30th APRIL 2023.\nPlease note that all communications this year will be by email only\, due to high costs regrettably we are unable to continue \nusing the post for our fundraising mailings. \nThis event will be from 11am – 5pm and we are inviting you to bring along your amazing exhibit for everyone to see. Again this \nyear\, we would like to suggest a meet up in Torrington (Hatchmoor Industrial Estate) or in Hatherleigh (Industrial Estate) at \n09.30am and travel through to Merton together\, on a scenic drive as groups of cars\, motorcycles and tractors at 15 minute \nintervals to slightly stagger your arrival. Please indicate your intentions on the enclosed booking form.\nIf you would like the opportunity to ‘parade’ your exhibit whilst at the Rally Around (parade will take place at 3pm) it is very \nimportant that you also indicate this on the booking form. Once your booking form has been received and accepted those who \nwish to parade will be emailed a ‘P’ entry pass which MUST be clearly displayed. Those who do not wish to parade will be emailed \na ‘S’ entry pass and will be parked separately as static show exhibits. Obviously we have limited space and entries for both \nparade and show bookings and will be accepted on a first received basis. Of course any entries received after our capacity has \nbeen reached will be notified accordingly.\nPlease complete the enclosed booking form to let us know that you wish to come along with your exhibit and please ensure you \nindicate your intentions in respect of the drive to Merton and parading. Please return your booking form to us by \nSaturday 8th April 2023 at the latest\, either in the post or by email to yvonne@tawandtorridge.co.uk\nWhilst at the Rally Around you will of course have the opportunity to buy refreshments; tea/coffee\, indulge in a delicious \nHog Roast or Devon Pasty\, or alternatively enjoy afternoon tea/cake and ice creams. Our bar is always open to help \n‘quench your thirst’. We will have a number of interesting stalls for you all to wander around\, along with all the amazing array \nof cars\, motorcycles\, tractors and engines to view at your leisure.\nWe respectfully ask you to ‘Give a Donation’ to The North Devon Hospice & The Devon Air Ambulance at the entrance and there \nwill be a number of collection buckets located and circulating throughout the day. We are sure you will agree that we all know \nfamilies and friends who have been helped\, supported and cared for by these local Charities.\nWe very much look forward to hearing from you shortly and receiving your booking form and of course meeting up with you all on \nthe day itself\, Sunday 30th April 2023\, and help us to help these very worthy causes.\nKind Regards\nMERTON MONCKS COMMITTEE\nEnc\nPlease note: The Rally site at Merton is now a NO DOG AREA\, with the exception of Guide/Assistance Dogs.” \nFor members wishing to attend\, please see the attached Letter to Exhibitors and Booking Form. This event has also been promoted on our facebook page and WhatsApp Group. \n[pdf-embedder url=”http://bmwcarclubgb.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Merton-2023-Letter-to-Exhibitors.pdf” title=”Merton 2023 Letter to Exhibitors”] [pdf-embedder url=”http://bmwcarclubgb.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Merton-Booking-Form-2023.pdf” title=”Merton Booking Form 2023″] \n(1) Merton Vintage And Classic Vehicle Rally Around | Facebook

Stewart\, a former R.A.F. engineer\, and his wife Liz were on holiday on a campsite when another couple arrived with their two disabled Tawny owls. Liz and Stewart subsequently became members of a raptor rescue centre as active and enthusiastic fund-raisers. As their confidence and experience grew\, the rescue centre asked Liz and Stewart to look after a disabled Tawny owl – enter Boris\, a fledgling who had flown into a patio window and was blind in one eye.As word spread\, other disabled raptors were brought to the McQuillan’s home in Ramsey for care and attention. Unfortunately when Stewart took the birds to be treated\, he discovered that very few vets had any training or experience in working with raptors (although most of them were willing to learn) and the usual suggestion was that the bird should be put down. Stewart then discovered what became his bible – Veterinary Aspects of Captive Birds of Prey’ by John Cooper\, an experienced vet and raptor enthusiast.\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:3 Clubs Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:We have a new location for this year’s three club meeting\, now at Newhaven Fort. Once again we are joining Mercedes-Benz Club and The Independent Porsche Enthusiasts Club (TIPEC) to show off the best of the German car marques. \nClose to Brighton\, Newhaven Fort is Sussex’s largest defence work. Built in Napoleonic times it is now a fascinating visitor attraction and we will have the chance to display our cars within the Fort’s impressive ramparts on the open air parade ground. The fort has exhibitions on aspects of both World Wars\, it’s own tearoom\, gift shop and unbeatable channel views from the ramparts\, so why not make it a family day out? \nFor this special event\, we have arranged an entry price of just £5 per car and occupants (normally £9.95 per adult). \nDue to limited space on the parade ground\, advanced booking is required for this event. Please contact Nigel Hole for tickets by email southeast@bmwcarclubgb.co.uk \nAccessed through a narrow gateway\, all cars must be on site by 9:30 am\, departure 4:00 pm.

DESCRIPTION:When does the boat come in? I hear you ask. Well the answer to that question is Sunday 26th March on our When the boat comes in fish and chip run. What better way to celebrate the start of British summer time than to enjoy the scenic drive around some of the best the North Yorks coast has to offer.\nWe will meet at the Kirkleatham museum car park at 10am before setting off for Staithes via Redcar\, Marske\, Saltburn\, Loftus and Easington.\nUpon arriving at Staithes we will park in the Bank Top Car Park (Space permitting). You will then have ample time to explore at your leisure and enjoy fish and chips or any other dish you desire.\nWe will aim to meet up and leave Staithes for 1.30pm but please don’t rush if you want to spend more time there.\nWe will then set off back via a more inland route taking in Ellerby before turning back to head over the tops via Scaling reservoir (stop here for photo opportunity). Upon leaving Scaling you are free to head off in your own direction either heading towards Whitby or back on the A171 towards Guisborough. The choice is yours.\nWe hope to see you for what is set to be an enjoyable day out.
