SUMMARY:Historic Vehicle Gathering at Powderham Castle - UPDATED 1/7/24
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE 1/7/24 – THE VEHICLE PASSES AND WRISTBANDS HAVE BEEN DISTRIBUTED TO THOSE ATTENDING. \nOur local big event of the year returns on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th of July in the stunning setting of the grounds of Powderham Castle. Let us hope that the weather is kinder than in 2023. \nWe will be attending as a club and I have requested the same pitch and capacity as last year. The tickets are £17 which covers 1 car\, 1 driver and 1 passenger for either or both days. Camping for the Friday and Saturday night is £40 including entrance. \nIt will be open to the public from 10:00-17:00 so we will need to be there around 09:00 to set up the car display etc. We will try to theme our display\, so please abide the request of whoever is marshalling the display. \nWe expect to be hosting our neighbouring Cornwall and Western Regions. \nHelp in setting up the marquee on Friday the 12th will be welcomed. The conditions of entry are shown below. \n \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:A popular annual show which takes place on the north section of Paignton Green\, alongside the beach and Paignton Pier. Entries are filling up rapidly. As mentioned previously on our WhatsApp and facebook pages\, we are not going to be attending as a club\, but individual members can book and make their arrangements to park together. \nINFORMATION FROM THE WEBSITE: \n​TOWC organises the Riviera Classic Car Show in late July every year on the first Sunday of the Paignton Festival\, which lasts for 9 days.  The Festival was formerly called Torbay Carnival and has been held since 1908. It was given its new name in 2016 and still includes the Torbay Carnival procession on the Wednesday evening. The show is an important part of the Festival week and was first held by us in 1994. It raises funds for the Festival\, which are used entirely to support local charities and community organisations. In 2022 we were proud to donate £7\,000\, bringing the running total raised to well over £66\,000. Amazingly\, almost half of this has been since 2016. \nWith the current layout the show is more a part of the Festival than ever.  The display of fabulous vehicles is complemented by stage entertainment through the day\, food outlets\, a craft marquee and licensed bar.  We’re still able to accommodate around 400 vehicles and the result is a unique event which has developed its own very special relaxed and friendly atmosphere.  Such is its popularity that we now have exhibitors bringing their vehicles from over much of England and South Wales\, and bookings for spaces are full some months in advance.  Some of our entries are individuals\, whilst we also have clubs taking their own stand spaces. The range of vehicles is something to behold.  There are a few rare examples from the early part of the 1900s\, lots of classics from the 50s to 70s or even a bit later.  There’s also a sprinkling of modern custom and supercars\, commercial vehicles\, scooters and motorbikes. \nThe show site is right at the heart of one of the most popular and busiest parts of Torbay and is always enjoyed by families on holiday as well as locals who make a point of visiting us every year. With so much to see and do\, it’s a great day out for all the family. \nWe can fit in almost 400 vehicles but the show’s popularity means it’s always over-subscribed. Entry Packs are available by clicking this link\, it will take you to the downloads page. \nWe do sometimes find that we have a few spare spaces on the day.  We can never guarantee this\, but if so then we will accept some late entries.  All exhibitors are given a rally programme and a small memento to show our appreciation.  \nThe cut-off age for exhibits is 1993 with the exception of cars in the Americans and Custom/Exotic classes\, and clubs.  All entries are accepted at the discretion of the organisers.  A minimum of 5 vehicles is needed for a club stand and we recommend block applications for this. \nFor safety reasons\, drivers must be on site before 10 am and not leave until the show closes after the prize giving around 4.30 pm. The following is verbatim from the organiser’s email: \n“Having agonised over this decision over the last couple of days\, I feel that we have no option but to postpone the May 27th event. A number of people who had been invited as rally stars to the event have decided that they can not attend\, mainly due to M5 holiday traffic. Sadly\, also I had hoped that a larger number of local entrants would sign on\, but that hasn’t happened either. Ultimately\, the event\, in addition to being a fun run out for entrants\, is also an entertainment for spectators who pay to come\, 20 rally cars simply does not provide that entertainment. Thank you to those of you have put faith in our events and entered. \n\nCars coming to be displayed has not been a problem – thank you to everyone who had booked in to do that.  This decision has been very frustrating\, as the displays had promised to be very good\, the rally car “stars” have presented me with the problem.\n\nWe are talking to the Racecourse about a new date\, which we will discuss with potential entrants before confirming. DESCRIPTION:We have now received information from the organisers for this charming event\, run by the Merton Moncks – Fundraising for the local community. The following is an extract from their notification: \n“We are delighted to advise that we are once again holding our Merton Vintage & Classis Rally Around on \nSUNDAY 30TH APRIL 2023 (as usual\, on the Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend). Fingers crossed the weather will be kinder \nto us this year.\nLast year\, we were delighted with the attendance\, and despite us all getting rather wet we were able to raise a total of £4450\nwhich was divided equally between our chosen charities: The North Devon Hospice and The Devon Air Ambulance. \nWe very much look forward to another enjoyable day enabling you to show your exhibit and have the opportunity to catch up \nwith old friends. This year we are again going to raise funds for the same two very important local Charities in memory of \nChris Laughton and all our friends and loved ones who sadly we have lost along the way.\nRemember to make a note in your diary and on your calendars ………………… SUNDAY 30th APRIL 2023.\nPlease note that all communications this year will be by email only\, due to high costs regrettably we are unable to continue \nusing the post for our fundraising mailings. \nThis event will be from 11am – 5pm and we are inviting you to bring along your amazing exhibit for everyone to see. Again this \nyear\, we would like to suggest a meet up in Torrington (Hatchmoor Industrial Estate) or in Hatherleigh (Industrial Estate) at \n09.30am and travel through to Merton together\, on a scenic drive as groups of cars\, motorcycles and tractors at 15 minute \nintervals to slightly stagger your arrival. Please indicate your intentions on the enclosed booking form.\nIf you would like the opportunity to ‘parade’ your exhibit whilst at the Rally Around (parade will take place at 3pm) it is very \nimportant that you also indicate this on the booking form. Once your booking form has been received and accepted those who \nwish to parade will be emailed a ‘P’ entry pass which MUST be clearly displayed. Those who do not wish to parade will be emailed \na ‘S’ entry pass and will be parked separately as static show exhibits. Obviously we have limited space and entries for both \nparade and show bookings and will be accepted on a first received basis. Of course any entries received after our capacity has \nbeen reached will be notified accordingly.\nPlease complete the enclosed booking form to let us know that you wish to come along with your exhibit and please ensure you \nindicate your intentions in respect of the drive to Merton and parading. Please return your booking form to us by \nSaturday 8th April 2023 at the latest\, either in the post or by email to yvonne@tawandtorridge.co.uk\nWhilst at the Rally Around you will of course have the opportunity to buy refreshments; tea/coffee\, indulge in a delicious \nHog Roast or Devon Pasty\, or alternatively enjoy afternoon tea/cake and ice creams. Our bar is always open to help \n‘quench your thirst’. We will have a number of interesting stalls for you all to wander around\, along with all the amazing array \nof cars\, motorcycles\, tractors and engines to view at your leisure.\nWe respectfully ask you to ‘Give a Donation’ to The North Devon Hospice & The Devon Air Ambulance at the entrance and there \nwill be a number of collection buckets located and circulating throughout the day.
